Scotland & the Highland Games

Landed in Glasgow after a long delay leaving Iceland.

Driving on the 'wrong' side

Old Edinburgh

Edinburgh Castle
Incredible.  1100 years old

Such old churches

We walked the Royal Mile.

Loved seeing the kilts and the different clans
in the stores.....

and in real life!

Loved hearing the bagpipes

The Church the Queen attends when in Edinburgh

The Holyrood Castle, seen from the Abby Strand Gate,
the Queen's official residence when she is in Scotland

And the Queen's Art Gallery

June 4th we drove north to Cornhill, Banff
and attended the Cornhill Highland games.
A fantastic experience.
We watched Highland Dancing

And the Heavy Games

The Bagpipe Bands were playing all day.
with all the different tartans.

 These young Scottish lads

the wee bairns

The pipers

You could order Haggis or Venison plus Aberdeen Angus Steak.

And loved watching the tug of war competition

Amazing concentration and determination!

And the caber toss.
Wow!

The Highland games brought back so many memories from my childhood.  Our Sunday School picnics always had sack races, tug of war, running races and three legged races.  They had all of these at the games as well.  I can see now that these SS games were all based on our Scottish roots and the Highland games.

Note the dirk

Our fabulous B & B in Inverness.
Loved the plaid.

We are also seeing signs with both Gaelic & English.

We looked in the church cemetery to try to find our great grandparents graves.
No luck but they were born here in Inverness.
A quaint lovely city on the banks of the River Ness.
