Glasgow, a population of 1.2 million, was built on the
River Clyde and has been here since prehistoric times
Glasgow is a city of spirals & steeples,
And many old buildings.
And many steep hills.
Glasgow increased in importance in the 1100's
And it's Port was crucial to its growth
We toured the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.
The building here reminded me of the pavilion at Winnipeg City Park
A strong Scottish influence I think.
Gorgeous
This slab of Douglas Fir was sent here by Canada
and was cut down in British Columbia!
Fun to read that Charles Dickens loved performing his works here.
Enjoyed some more 'animals'
Arctic Seal
Maybe a relative of the Ogopogo or Loch Ness Monster
A Rodin sculpture
Then onto the
A museum of transportation.
It was a fun place to visit
Maybe my grandpa rode on this.
Then we toured the tall ship
Living Quarters
The Galley kitchen
Finally off to see the Tenement Houses ~ the red sandstone buildings are everywhere
and are one of the most recognizable signatures of the city
We toured this museum that showed how families lived in the 1800's.
My grandpa would have lived in a place very similar but maybe a mile or two away from here.
The straw mattress, one on the bed.
Another under for guests.
Airbnb in the 1800's!
The closet beds
The stove
A pretty city of buildings but not as clean as the other cities we have visited.
Their taxi cabs. Cute but
we rode the city buses. They were terrific.
