I've got Georgia on my Mind...

We started our vacation by driving to some of the Golden Isles of Georgia
Jekyll Island and St. Simon's Island

St. Simon's Lighthouse
Originally built in 1807 the light house was destroyed in the civil war
and then rebuilt in 1872.  It is 104 ft tall and has 129 cast iron steps to the top.
A fabulous view from the top.

Of course Elwood loved the cannons.

Spanish Moss is seen hanging from the
Live Oaks and Magnolia trees.
Beautiful.

Christ Church is a few miles north of the lighthouse.

Both John & Charles Wesley preached here in 1736.
Amazing!
We enjoyed our meal of Clam Chowder and Flounder at the
Sand Castle.  Delicious!!

Enroute to St. Simon's we stopped on Jekyll Island.
The Rockefellers & Vanderbilts use to vacation here.
We loved the beach at Access 57!

From there we drove to Savannah Georgia.

We drove through the marsh land and
we drove through lots of beautiful Georgia pines on either side of the highway.

Historic District of Savannah

Keeping up with the Joneses comes from this famous street below.
Also named the most beautiful street in America.

Yes, we did see where Forest Gump was filmed and
the famous Chippewa Square and Independent Presbyterian Church.

Loved being by the water

We spent some of the afternoon at Tybee Island, Savannah's beach.
We ate at the Sugar Shack and once again enjoyed Flounder.  Yummmm

That evening we drove to Charleston, South Carolina ~
A beautiful, historic city.

Enjoyed buttermilk pie at the Hominy Grill.
Reading Elwood's sweatshirt the waiter said to him ~ 'Are you from Saskatchewan?'
We told him we now live in Texas but were from Saskatchewan.
He said that we were the second family he had served from Saskatchewan that evening!!!

The Civil War started in Charleston at Ft. Sumter,
an island just off the coast

The young man said he knew how to use the camera
~ I guess he just didn't know to not cut off a head!

Brick, stones and wrought iron (indication of wealth) are everywhere
 in both Savannah & Charleston

Walked East Bay St down Rainbow Row

There were several stone roads.

The fountain at the Calhoun mansion

George Washington AND Elwood Larson were here.

We took the horse drawn tours in both Savannah & Charleston.
This was Freddy the horse and Mike in Charleston.

Loved walking the battery and seeing the water.
Just beautiful! The houses ~ majestic!

We were fortunate to see two dolphins in the bay.
They swam and jumped and caught fish.
They put on a wonderful, natural show for us

Some fisherman had caught theses.
Two crabs and a shrimp.
They also had a squid they were cutting up for bate.
Eowewewew

We also saw the Angel tree ~ said to be 1400 years old.
It was not pretty ~ just old and huge!

We drove back to Savannah and walked the River Road.

The next day we drove back to Jacksonville, Florida.
Of course, we stopped for orange and grapefruit juice.
 Yummmmm

What a great trip! We would love to venture that way sometime.

Love your pic with the heads cut off, we just had someone take a family picture of us at the state fair. Except they only got Philip and I and the stroller and missed the girls and the state fair sign! :)
