Interesting Swedish..stuff
- No ice in the soft drinks. In the help yourself soda fountain drinks, there is no place that dispenses ice.
- Each hotel, whether small or large, served an incredible breakfast of : luncheon meats, eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, pancakes, cheeses, yogurt and toppings, cereal ~ cold or hot, huge selection of buns, breads, flat breads, juices and coffees.
- Pickled herring and caviar at every breadfast too.
- The Swedish mile is equal to 10 kilometers.
- The Swedish elk is the Saskatchewan Moose. We were served elk. It was delicious.
- When some says let's do coffee it means coffee+ lots of food.
- Stockholm, though quite a big city, has no really tall buildings.
- People walk and bike a lot.
- Gasoline is expensive. $6.90 a US gallon or $1.80 a litre.
- The smallest coin is 1 kronor and is worth about $.14
- Some of the Norwegian and Danish coins have a hole in the center.
- There are lots and lots of pine and spruce trees. Ikea makes sense!
- When we were there, there was sunlight still at 11:30pm and at 4:00 am. In the winter, they tell us they have sunlight from 10 am - 2 pm!
- The Swedish government use to legistlate that you paint your house one of three colors: russet brown, white or yellow/gold. The last meant you had a bit more $$$$$
- Their homes are named: We visited Eriksgarden and Israelsgarden etc. When they say you are eating in their garden, it means at their home. I like that!
- The older homes are built in a U shape so there is an enclosed "garden" in the middle. The parents could block off a play area quite easily just from the placement of their outer buildings.

The breakfast and sunlight comments remind me of our trip to Ireland last year while Philip worked.
