Ilbacken Relatives - Part Two

Then on to another relative that lives by the river. This is one of the homes on her property

A darling cottage. She really thought Elwood & Rae looked like her family.

Stina lived in this house after the fire in her home. I'll let you know who Stina is tomorrow. Can't quite remember how we are related!!
The country side is incredibly beautiful.
Then on to some other relatives whose son married a girl from Minnesota
The root cellar. A number of homes have root cellars that were built 100-150 years ago. They are made with cut rock and are down in the ground and keep the temperate at 4 degrees Celsius no matter what the temperature is outside!

The Swedish homes are built in a square. It is very common to have many buildings on your property. Most a painted a russet brown, yellow or white. Grandpa Larson would have lived in something very similar to this.
We stopped in and met a Swedish Legend. He has won many gold medals for cross country skiing. A number were won in Calgary in '88.
This house was Rune's grandfather's house built maybe 150 years ago.
A darling young family live there now.
The barn was built in the early 1900's

On to more relatives for coffee/supper. Gudrun & Albin, Ingrid & Barbro fed us very well and had many stories to share of growing up in a Swedish home.

The coffee times so reminded us of Aunt Clara's in Midale. The interior of the homes reminded us of the Swedish homes in Midale. And the yards with many buildings reminded us of the farm. It has been an incredible experience. The relatives here have been just as excited as us to meet their American cousins! They have loved the family booklet we have given them. Can't wait for tomorrow!
